Typhoon Tino Relief in Asturias: iLearners Reaches 85 Families from Kaluangan II and Tagbubonga Schools
23 November 2025’s outreach in Asturias was a reminder of why our mission continues to matter — and why communities remain at the heart of everything we do. As an organization dedicated to fighting rural illiteracy and currently supporting three beneficiary schools in far flung areas of Cebu , iLearners has always believed that education and compassion must go hand in hand. For 16 years, Kaluangan II Elementary School has been one of the schools closest to our hearts — a place where we’ve watched young learners grow, teachers go above and beyond, and families welcome us like their own.

Their community was among those badly hit by the flash flood caused by Typhoon Tino. However, due to landslides blocking the only road to the remote area and an unpassable bridge, we sadly weren’t able to reach the community itself. Despite this, the mission continued. We met with Head Teachers Miss Maricel and Miss Jaykee at Asturias Central School for the official turnover. The donations — including school supplies, grocery packs, blankets, and mats — will be transported by motorcycle in the coming days, which is the only possible way to deliver the items to the area. The delivery is scheduled after Typhoon Verbena exits the Philippine Area of Responsibility to ensure safety and accessibility.
In total, we were able to extend help to 85 families and 86 learners and teachers from both Kaluangan II and Tagbubonga in Asturias. Each pack carried not just essential items, but a message of hope and reassurance — that even when roads are blocked and bridges are broken, help will always find a way.

This outreach would not have been possible without the generosity of our donors and the unwavering commitment of our volunteers, who continue to show up with compassion, patience, and strength even amid unpredictable weather and challenging conditions. We also extend our deepest appreciation to the teachers of Kaluangan II and Tagbubonga, who remain steadfast in looking after their pupils and their families, proving once again that teachers are the heart of every community.
Sixteen years of connection have created more than a partnership — they have built a family. And in moments like these, family shows up. As iLearners continues its mission to fight rural illiteracy, we move forward committed, hopeful, and always ready to serve, no matter how rough the road may be.
